No embroidery this week, I had a craving to start something I could actually finish, something that wouldn't turn into my life's work. I warped my rigid heddle loom with kitchen cotton (worsted weight 100% cotton yarn) using the 7.5 epi heddle. If I had a 5 epi I would have used that.
I have plenty of strips to work with, including this is a ball I strung together with knots some time ago. For the next rag project, I'll eliminate the knots by overlapping my strips with a bit of glue stick. This is what I got at the end of the afternoon: a runner for my kitchen table. The nitty gritty: finished size 14.5 x 38" I used both 3/4 inch folded strips and irregularly cut strips under 1" and beat them with a wide toothed comb. Warp: about 130 yards, 62 warp ends on 7.5 epi heddle. Warp length: 74".
So the cats don't try to claim it as their own personal magic carpet, the violets are anchoring it down.

I recognize a few of those strips in the 1st picture! Yep, looks like a great project for selvages and thin strips. Holler if you need more-like when you start your living room rug!!

I won't pretend to understand a lot of those terms you are using, but I think the resulting table runner is beautiful. You cat and those flowers are beautiful also. Your weaving looks like it would be fun to do.
I'm catching up... Bunny is beautiful! Your table runner looks lovely with the violets, and what a great way to use up strips! I bet weaving is something one could do in front of the TV when the brain is not up to much else!
what a great project......I have always wanted to try using a loom. What would you suggest for a beginner beginner beginner like me. do you know where I can find a simple loom to use. I will have to teach myself so I need an easy one to use.

I love the table runner. I'm a beginner rigid heddle weaver and I just completed a rug using yarn made from old T-shirts...I'm ready to try strips of fabric next. Looks great!!
I am also a beginner rigid heddle weaver and I just completed a rug using old t-shirts, however after washing by hand and laying it out the t-shirts shrunk but the cotton worsted weight yarn did not so the ends, which i finished with 10 or so wefts of just the cotton yarn, are all puckered up. I am learning a lot by doing, but am finding it difficult to find resources to just tell me the basics. Thanks for your posts! Also wondering how Gwen's rug turned out and what did you do to prevent the shrinkage of t-shirt material.
