The Hard Stuff
This is my new toy, a 24 inch Ashford Rigid Heddle Loom. RH looms are the knitter's gateway drug into weaving. They're relatively inexpensive as looms go, and are very user friendly. They also help one to use up the stockpiles of yarn many knitters acquire.
The Ashford comes with a very handy booklet that lets you start weaving as soon as you get it out of the box. I warped my loom with some ancient sport weight acrylic, and I wove with a fuzzy yarn I recycled from an acrylic and wool unraveled sweater.
The warping, which scares lots of people, was a simple process I completed in about an hour and a half: not bad for the first time.
Then I wove this scarf in a couple of sittings.
This is going to be really fun: I'd like to make shawls, hand towel, place mats, pillows, and table runners. When I get tired of that, I can weave yardage and make garments.

Oooh! I love this scarf! Beautiful!
Already?! You aren't wasting any time, are you?
Looks like a great little scarf!
I did a lot of weaving in college, had two looms, one very similar to yours and one we made in a fibers class, which was a lot larger. I really enjoyed weaving...I guess they disappeared when I moved out of my parents house when I got married in 1977...hmmm, this is sparking my interest...funny how things go full circle sometimes...maybe I'll take it up again! haha! The scarf is just beautiful! =-)
I want to pick up weaving again so badly!!!! It's been years but the call is strong. A rigid heddle loom just might be exactly the way to go!
Oooh! How cool is that, it looks like so much fun.
Love the colors and texture. What fun! Look forward to seeing you this evening. C-
Your first effort turned out lovely. My favorite color!
Yay! Your loom arrived ... and you immediately put it to good use. Your first effort is beautiful; I'm looking forward to see more.
I am starting out on a 20' Ashford RH loom. I really enjoyed your projects! How do you make the thick fringe? Most fringe looks space. It looks like you maybe added fringe to the fringe from the warp. Looks great!
I meant to say "sparse".
