100th post!

I missed my two-year blogaversary last month, but I did notice that this is my 100th post. Blogging has been a very useful way for me to keep in touch with old and new fiber friends. I do enjoy the on-going exchange with all of you, I just wish I had time to post more frequently. But for the sake of celebrating this milestone, I'm going to have a drawing. I'll put the names of any commenters to this month's posts in a hat and I'll send the winner a goodie bag. Make sure to comment!

These before and after images show what I did with a quilt top that was hanging in my closet unfinished. I originally planned for it to be a table cloth, but on second thought I decided to expand it into a throw. It went from about 50x50 to about 60x70. I plan to give it to a niece for her birthday next year.
I've got similar plans for this quilt top:
Once finished, it will be a throw for my other niece's birthday. I love the cheerful polka dots in these fabrics.

After mulling it over, I've decided to make a few dolls. It's a different process from quilt making, for me anyway. I like to improvise a lot when designing quilts, but I find that I need to settle on a concept before beginning a doll.

I've been collecting patterns and books, so I'm getting a feel for some of the alternative styles of doll bodies that can be made from fabric. The materials themselves are, of course, the same as for quilting, and hence, very familiar. This particular doll will be an adult, and not a child, so I may tweak this body a bit. Other than that, her character is going to be mostly rendered through her clothes. Check back and see who surfaces.

Congratulations on your milestone! I love the pinwheel quilt. I like the addition of the top and bottom borders. Great idea.

Happy 100 post milestone!
I will be so interested to hear how you experience doll-making...I am guessing the dolls will develop deep storylines (your being so literature-minded) as you bring them into manifestation!

Happy Milestones! I LOVE your pinwheel quilt! One of my favorite patterns...and the posie quilt is great, too...The black and white fabrics add such whimsy to these, I really like the combination of the b & w with the florals and softer colors...very nice..I need to finish some of my things that are languishing...someday...=-)

I'd love to be a winner, but you already are with these two great quilts you are finishing! Very cheerful and just the thing for young girls. I admire anyone who can make a doll!

Congrats on your posting milestone.

I love the colors and patterns in those quilts. I you made a good decision about the "tablecloth."

I'll really be anxious to see your doll. I'm kinda bored with all the faeries around.

I was looking at some old stamping magazines yesterday and noticed where some artists had taken pre-made muslin bunnies and stamped and overstamped the bodies. They looked really cool. It made me think of your doll and the possibilities for exploring your theme with the body--especially if it is going to be covered with clothes; a bit like tattos!

Congrats on your 100th post!! I took a little hiatus while going through adjusting to the Bernina dealership from blogging but I am back and hoping to keep up with is more regularly! Like you, I enjoy seeing what everyone is doing and getting to 'know' fellow quilters even if we may never meet in person! And thank you for your recent comments on my blog--that's the best part--getting a little feedback and encouragement.

Oh, Barbara, I haven't visited in a while and just look at all the goodies you've posted! You know I'm nuts about your two quilts and I can't wait to hear more about your doll-making. I'm so glad you blog!

I really like that pinwheel number. So lively! I'm dreaming up ideas for a baby quilt soon and I just might have to do those pinwheels.

Economy Block and Large-Scale Fabrics

Recenlty I decided to take out and use the stash of Asian-themed fabrics I'd set aside.  Many of them are large scale, so I wanted to fe...
